In the first episode, I introduce the concept of RSS as the DVR of the web. Well if RSS if like DVR, your RSS reader is like your DVR menu. Your RSS reader becomes the one-stop for all of the websites and blogs that you subscribe to, aggregating all new content to one place. It lets you know which sites contain new content (much like your DVR telling you when new TV show episodes are available) and lets you quickly scan and view new content from multiple sites simultaneously.

In this video, I demonstrate how to get started with Google Reader, my favorite RSS reader, and show you two simple ways to find and subscribe to websites and blogs that interest you. (more…)

How to Use “Signal” – LinkedIn’s New Search Feature

LinkedIn has really stepped up its game the past two years. Major interface changes and functionality additions have provided users with a more Facebook and Twitter-like experience, all the while keeping the integrity and power of the connection levels that have made LinkedIn such a valuable tool to the business community at large.

In the last few weeks, LinkedIn has rolled out a new feature, which is so much more than just the latest shiny object. The new search tool called “Signal” blows the walls off of your normal LinkedIn updates stream and provides a more Twitter-like search function that will return conversations/updates from all users on the platform.
